Description: The use of the Macy Catheter is an emerging standard of practice in Hospice and Palliative Care for difficult symptom management. In this session, a panel will familiarize the prescriber with the current evidence base for the clinical, quality, and cost comparisons of utilizing the Macy Catheter vs oral, parenteral, and suppository administration. Brad Macy–inventor of the Macy Catheter–will share anecdotal experience of his own and that of other hospice nurses in relation to the challenges of the sublingual route and why the Macy Catheter was invented for this reason.
